Why A Brown Paper Bag?

A brown paper bag seems like a pretty boring object. For years its design has remained the same, its color lacks inspiration, no bikini clad models caressing its clean lines in a Super Bowl as, or ipod application updating the latest in paper bag technology. Yet this product remains a staple to consumers, and retailers alike. The point being is that sometimes a great idea is as simple as a brown paper bag.

As a landscape architect, designer, and student of human behavior, I will use this medium to explore my surroundings, the people that inhabit them and how they coexist. The simple explanation of this study is called Human Factors Science, or “The science of understanding the properties of human capability “, encompassing the fields of psychology, engineering, industrial design, statistics, operations research and anthropometry. In short it is studying human behaviors and interactions to find ways which to improve those interactions. The foundation for this science is research and observation, and this blog will be the documentation of some of that research, both the mundane and exciting alike.
